US Online Poker
Poker players who were reassured by news that a dialogue had been established between the Poker Players Alliance and the US Department of Justice after attacks were made a few weeks ago of online poker casino bank accounts. But they are now disappointed to learn that the federal government is at it again. In spite of constant requests from the PPA that these seizures are to be stopped, a new warrant against Union Bank of California was issued later in June without sending a notification to the PPA.
One of the representatives of the Poker Players Alliance said that the Assistant US Attorney had not notified the PPA of this act. According to some legal experts, the government action is said to be risky and the speculation has been that the plan of the Assistant US Attorney for the Southern District of New York is to scare online poker players.
Prosecutors hope to frighten American players into leaving the online poker rooms for fear of not being paid. However, after the first round of seizures resulted in a loss of $33 million that was supposed to be paid to US citizen poker players, some of the online poker rooms that were affected had refunded customers of their lost winnings and they included a bonus for the inconvenience caused.
PPA attorneys have claimed that the government actions symbolize both an unsuitable use of law and a violation of due process rights that includes the right to defend oneself, or to be presented with charges against oneself and the assumption of innocence.
The PPA website includes a form that addresses Congressional members and insists that the rights of online poker players be appreciated. An appointee of President Obama who has lately taken an oath to protect online liberty is noted as a poker player himself. Video poker is very similar to traditional poker and it is also played online at online casinos. The video poker basic strategy is a little different though as you cannot bluff, like you would do in traditional poker.
