Most common blackjack mistakes
It may sound rather ironic, but one of the most common blunders that new players make in blackjack is trying to get as close to 21 as possible! 21 is the perfect score in blackjack which is why players are eager to achieve it.
Sadly focusing on trying to get the perfect score is going to cause you to go bust in no time. Instead of aiming for 21 points, players should be concentrating on beating the dealer’s hand, which is what really matters in blackjack.
Even though blackjack basic strategy is so easy, many players ignore to learn the basics. Knowing basic blackjack strategy can help players considerably reduce the house edge to 0.5%. There are plenty of articles online that describe blackjack strategy in detail and its quite easy to learn as well. Basic strategy tells you the best move to make based on the dealer’s face up card.
Another common mistake that many player’s make is betting too big too quick. Player’s often make big bets in the hopes of winning big, but do not consider that they can end up losing big too. It’s important to choose the appropriate stakes based on your bankroll. As a rule of thumb, spread your bankroll over 20 bets at least. So if you have a bankroll of say $100, make bets worth $5.
As you may know, you are allowed to split your hand when you get a pair. Although splitting a pair of 10s seems like a good idea, in reality you have consider that a pair of 10s is a hand worth 20 points which is the closest you can get to 21. It would be foolish to break up such a strong hand and so you should always think twice before splitting a pair of 10s.
